Whether it is part of my run, walking back from Cross Fit or generally just walking from the APM home on a nightly basis, the Canton Park is beautiful, especially with the iconic Canton Tower at the end of it. It never stops to make me smile at how beautiful this place is and one nights view always seems to be different fro the next. Whether this is due to the tower changing colour or the weather, it is a lovely place to be.

To celebrate Kat and I's birthdays which were in the summer, and for Clare's which was tomorrow, a belated birthday brunch was organised at the IFC. A lovely occasion to eat and drink all we wanted from the buffet of absolute treats 76 floors up! From seafood to salads and roast beef to patisserie delights, you cannot not eat your body weight in good food here. It was great to catch up with our closest friends in GZ as well as get dressed up for the occasion!
Clare and Christina celebrated their birthday in style with a pool party, which is just being Hooleys. Great to know there is a pool so close to us so we can pretend that we are not in a city of about 16 million people!! A hot, sunny day but not too humid and lovely to catch up with people as well as meet some more of the new starters properly.
The great thing about being in the city, so many places to eat, drink, shop, explore are so much more accessible. Now don't get me wrong, getting used to the commute is taking some time, but the mornings it is only 20mins in a taxi and in the evening it is 40mins-1 hour depending when you leave. I prefer to take the metro as at least you are moving all the time and I don't get travel sick!! Where we are situated in town is behind 'Bar Street' which has many many restaurants (and bars!) including the only remaining Irish Bar in GZ; Hooley's. Not that I am a massive fan of that place, as you can smoke in there and that is a smell I cannot stand! But our favourite place, Doors, is on this street (YAY) and there are many other places. We have been trying the Japenese restaurants, can't get enough of a good Ramen or rice bowl! Now, the wet market, is probably up there with my favourite things about living in the city - so much fresh veg, fruit, meat, eggs and dry store products but so cheap. Hidden in here are also 2 other shops; Sunshine Fruits and GoVegan. Sunshine Fruits has a fruit stall but they also make an array of juices, smoothies, salads, sandwiches and smoothie bowls. They also deliver and it is great after going for a run having a smoothie bowl delivered and feeling lovely and fresh!! GoVegan has got a great selection of desserts, yoghurts, dried fruit and healthy supplements/ingredients all dairy free, so you can understand why we enjoy shopping here! We flew back on Finn Air and met the Brophys at Helsinki for our final leg. It was actually really nice to break up the journey and the airline was really good. When we got back to Guangzhou it was to move into our new flat in the city! Given that we landed at 730am it actually was great to move in (after locating all our stuff in different peoples flats!) otherwise we would have wanted to sleep all day! This is our view from the bedroom window - I still can't get over how much I love it. Guangzhou does have a great skyline and we get a little snippet here! Here are some photos of our flat so you get an idea of where we are living. It certainly is a lot smaller than our last place but it is plenty big enough for us both and does have a spare room for when people visit! I am excited to get this year underway with more adventures and a different way of living now that we are in the city.
